Manali on New Year Eve:

On last weekend of December, I traveled to Manali.  I faced too much traffic jam, diversions and heavy air pollution on my way probably because of the New Year. I had a home stay near Nehru Kund located on Rohtang road and it was nice and less crowded. On the night of 31st most of tourists who had left for Rohtang pass in the morning were unable to reach back to their hotels because of the heavy traffic jam.  I was looking out of my room window and could see the long queue of vehicles. Most of tourists parked their cars on roadside and started dancing, singing along with music on high volume, that was how most of tourist celebrated their last night of the year.

1st January, Now people are going back to their home, resulting in pollution and traffic free roads. By 2pm,Manali got its own nature back. Blue sky and one could feel the cool fresh air so I decided to go for local visit.

Vashist Temple and Hot Water Pond:

I opted to walk instead of taking a car so I took 1 km long trek which passes a village, so many local houses in a narrow path with children playing on streets. I played with them and even talked to few. I reached Vashist temple, it is dedicated to Lord Rama’s teacher Vashist. There is beautiful wooden carving work on the walls and doors. Separate hot sulfur water ponds are there for gents and ladies to bath, in this sacred medicinal water many skin problem can be cured, In Manali’s cool weather, one can feel relaxed after taking dip in this pond.

Hadimba Devi temple:

This temple is more than 400years old!It is a local traditional structure made using woods, mud, and stones. Located in heart of Deodar forest also known as Dhungri Park. This temple is dedicated to Demon Hadima who became Goddess after doing hard penance in Himalaya. This is a very famous, iconic and picturesque place for the tourists.

Dhungri Van Vihar/ Manali Nature Park:

It is not less than a paradise for nature and bird lovers. Peaceful ambiance, enriched with natural charm, can give you good space for meditation or Capture moments in your cameras with family and friends. Children can enjoy boating ride. The entry gate is very close to Hadimba Devi temple.

Mall Road:

You can get local traditional handmade woolens and shawls here for cheap prices. National and international restaurants, bars and café available here. Flavor of local food can be enjoyed in local restaurants and dhabas.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMS) is the largest adventure sports training center in India. If you are an adventure lover and want to take training in mountaineering, water sports and trekking then this institute is the perfect option for you. Nice ambiance, Good facility, very disciplined and punctual staff. I have done a skiing course from here when I was in college.

Manali is popularly known as a honeymoon destination but nowadays it is much more than that. It is a paradise for adventure seekers, trekking lovers, activities like water sports, paragliding, skiing and much more available here. Many tourists come here to see the first snowfall of their life. I will be honest, even I enjoyed the first snowfall of my life here. It is has something to offer every tourist who comes here. Many photographers come here for a lush green forest, hilly mountains, blue sky, apple garden, rivers, waterfalls, and snowfall.
